Lorraine

The trains run in the distance
A link between the wild and the tame
They ride you to the suburbs
To my Lorraine

I met her on the subway
She didn’t recognize my neighborhood’s name
She smiled and wrote her number
Lovely Lorraine

These streets are mean
But they’re quiet at night
They’ll turn you cold
But I’m holding up all right
You can see the stars
When the air’s just right
I wonder if she looks up too
And wishes for something new

What if your White Knight appeared
And he wasn’t who you’d thought
And you couldn’t measure his affections
By the tokens that he bought

These streets are mean
But they’re quiet at night
They’ll turn you cold
But I’m holding up all right
You can see the stars
When the air’s just right
I wonder if she looks up too
And wishes for something new

I’ll never have much money
I’ll never make a living using my brain
But I know you could love me
Love me, Lorraine
